What happened

Connecticut's largest health system detected unusual network activity on March 8, 2025 and later confirmed attackers copied patient data. Its HHS filing listed about 5.56 million people, with names, birth dates, addresses, phone and email, race/ethnicity, patient type, medical record numbers and, for some, Social Security numbers. It said medical records, treatment details and financial data were not exposed.

What should I do?

  1. Freeze your credit for free at Equifax, Experian and TransUnion so no one can open new accounts in your name.
  2. Sign up for the free credit or identity monitoring offered in the notice letter before its enrollment deadline.
  3. Request an IRS Identity Protection PIN so nobody can file a tax return with your Social Security number.
  4. Treat emails, texts and calls that mention Yale New Haven Health as suspect; don't click links or share codes, and contact the company through its official app or website.
