What happened
SoundCloud said it found unauthorized activity in an ancillary service dashboard in December 2025 that let attackers link email addresses to public profile data for about 20% of users. The data was later leaked after an extortion attempt; Have I Been Pwned counted about 29.8 million unique emails with names, usernames, avatars, follower counts and sometimes country. SoundCloud said passwords and financial data were not accessed.
What should I do?
- Treat emails, texts and calls that mention SoundCloud, copyright strikes or payouts as suspect; don't click links or share codes, and contact the company through its official app or website.
- Change your SoundCloud password and any other account that uses the same password, and turn on two-step verification.
- Since your email is now tied to your public profile, consider changing your username or hiding linked details.
