What happened
Singapore telco Simba said in a statement on September 25, 2026 that it discovered a data breach the day before affecting 23,549 people who had registered for its services. The data involved names, identity card numbers, dates of birth, mobile numbers and email addresses. Simba says no credit card or bank account information is at risk, it has seen no sign of misuse and it has resolved the incident, but it has not explained how the breach happened. Singapore's Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) said it is investigating, and Simba is notifying affected customers by email.
What should I do?
- Be wary of calls and messages that quote your NRIC number or date of birth to sound official, and don't give out bank details or one-time passwords.
- Check that any Simba message is genuine by contacting Simba through its official app or website.
- Read Simba's email notice carefully and don't click links in look-alike messages; Simba says affected customers are being notified by email.
