What happened

RelyComply, a South African provider of identity verification and anti-money-laundering screening, had a security incident in which an unauthorized party gained access to its environment, which it confirmed to clients on September 10, 2026. Investment platform EasyEquities, which uses the provider for client verification, said the data potentially affected includes full names, identity information, dates of birth, gender, nationality, country of residence and account numbers. Satrix, whose SatrixNOW platform is run by EasyEquities, also warned customers, and Alexforbes said some identity-related information of its clients may have been accessed. The companies say their own systems and investment accounts were not compromised, and no count of affected people has been published.

What should I do?

  1. Treat calls, emails and messages claiming to be from EasyEquities, Satrix or Alexforbes with caution, and never share your password, OTP or banking details with anyone who contacts you.
  2. Consider a free SAFPS Protective Registration, since ID numbers and dates of birth can be used to open credit in your name.
  3. Check your credit report with a bureau such as TransUnion or Experian for accounts you do not recognize.
  4. Turn on two-factor authentication on your investment accounts and review recent account activity.
