Qantas data breach

Was I affected?

Qantas was reported to have a breach affecting an undisclosed number of people, exposing names, email addresses, phone numbers and passport numbers. You may be affected if you booked Qantas flights between about August 2023 and September 2026; Qantas is still working with Amadeus to identify affected bookings.

What happened

Qantas said its reservation technology provider Amadeus told it about unauthorized access to one of Amadeus's systems, which Amadeus says was contained in September 2026; airlines say access may date back to August 2023. Exposed booking data mostly covers names, booking references and flight details, with a smaller group also having email addresses, phone numbers, travel document numbers or frequent flyer numbers; no payment data was reportedly accessed. Qantas says its own systems were not affected and has not said how many of its bookings are involved. This is separate from the 2025 Qantas call-centre breach. Cathay Pacific, Japan Airlines, ANA, Korean Air and Malaysia Airlines were also affected.

What should I do?

  1. Treat emails, texts and calls that quote your booking reference or flight details as suspect, and manage bookings only through the Qantas app or qantas.com.
  2. Don't share card details, passwords or one-time codes with anyone claiming to be from Qantas or Amadeus about this incident.
  3. Check your Qantas Frequent Flyer account for points transfers or bookings you didn't make, and change the password if you reuse it elsewhere.
  4. If you are told your passport number was involved, watch for identity misuse and contact the passport office if you see anything suspicious.
