What happened
Insurer Prudential Financial detected attackers in its network in early February 2024 and first estimated about 36,000 people were affected. In July 2024 it told Maine regulators the figure was about 2.56 million, with names, addresses and driver's license or state ID numbers exposed. The ALPHV/BlackCat ransomware group claimed the intrusion.
What should I do?
- Contact your state DMV if you see signs your driver's license number is being misused and ask about a replacement number.
- Sign up for the free credit or identity monitoring offered in the notice letter before its enrollment deadline.
- Freeze your credit for free at Equifax, Experian and TransUnion so no one can open new accounts in your name.
- Treat emails, texts and calls that mention Prudential, your policy or a claim as suspect; don't click links or share codes, and contact the company through its official app or website.
