What happened
Mirae Asset Securities, South Korea's largest brokerage, said on November 7, 2026 that attackers hit its mobile-web phone-verification login service and its internal groupware (mi-global) on November 4 and 5. Account numbers of about 3,800 customers were leaked, but the company says account holder names and other sensitive details were not. Personal data of 35,255 executives and employees, including former staff and outsourced workers, was also taken: names and employee numbers, and for some, email addresses, mobile numbers and encrypted passwords. Resident registration, passport and driver's license numbers were not exposed, and the company reported the incident to Korea's Financial Services Commission, Financial Supervisory Service and Personal Information Protection Commission.
What should I do?
- Check your Mirae Asset Securities account history for trades, transfers or login alerts you don't recognize, and call the company's official number if anything looks wrong.
- Be wary of calls, texts or emails that quote your account number or claim to be from Mirae Asset; don't install apps or share verification codes on request.
- If you are a current or former employee, change any password you reused from the company groupware and turn on two-step verification where you can.
- Expect targeted phishing to the leaked work email addresses and mobile numbers, and report suspicious messages to the company.
