What happened
Fidelity Investments told Maine regulators that an outsider used two newly created customer accounts to pull personal information from internal systems in August 2024. About 77,000 people were notified; reports said Social Security numbers and driver's license details were among the data. Fidelity said no customer accounts or funds were accessed and offered two years of credit monitoring.
What should I do?
- Freeze your credit for free at Equifax, Experian and TransUnion so no one can open new accounts in your name.
- Sign up for the free credit or identity monitoring offered in the notice letter before its enrollment deadline.
- Turn on Fidelity's two-step login and voice/text alerts for any account change or withdrawal.
- Request an IRS Identity Protection PIN so nobody can file a tax return with your Social Security number.
