What happened

French energy company ENGIE confirmed in late October 2026 that attackers stole customer data after unusual access to a tool that its partners use for customer prospecting and selling energy offers; it says its own internal IT systems were not compromised. According to the notification letters, the data includes first and last names, postal addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, customer IDs, contract numbers and electricity delivery point (PDL) or gas metering point (PCE) numbers. ENGIE says no banking data was affected and that only customers in France are involved. It has not said how many customers are affected or named the partner whose tool was breached.

What should I do?

  1. Be wary of calls, emails and texts that quote your contract number, PDL or PCE and push a new offer, a refund or an urgent payment.
  2. Do not give bank details or sign a new contract during an unsolicited call; check your contract in your ENGIE customer area.
  3. Report phishing or scam calls through cybermalveillance.gouv.fr and the 33700 number for texts.
