What happened

Dell emailed customers in May 2024 that an attacker accessed a portal holding customer purchase records. Dell said names, physical addresses and order details such as service tags, item descriptions and warranty data were taken, but not emails, phone numbers or payment data. The hacker claimed to have scraped 49 million records by abusing a partner portal, a figure Dell did not confirm.

What should I do?

  1. Be wary of letters, calls or emails about Dell warranties, repairs or refunds that cite your order or service tag; contact Dell through dell.com directly.
  2. Never let unsolicited 'Dell support' callers remotely access your computer.
  3. Watch for package-delivery and replacement-part scams sent to your home address.
