What happened
Charter, the company behind Spectrum, confirmed a breach in May 2026 after ShinyHunters threatened to leak stolen data, then published it when the deadline passed. Have I Been Pwned verified about 4.9 million unique emails with names, phone numbers and addresses, including an internal staff directory; much of the data appears tied to business-customer sales tools. Charter said no sensitive personal data or customer proprietary network information was taken.
What should I do?
- Treat emails, texts and calls that mention Spectrum, your bill or service upgrades as suspect; don't click links or share codes, and contact the company through its official app or website.
- Hang up on callers claiming to be Spectrum and call back on the number on your bill.
- Add a security PIN to your Spectrum account.
