What happened

Canadian Tire Corporation said an intruder accessed an e-commerce customer database on October 2, 2025 covering online accounts for Canadian Tire, SportChek, Mark's/L'Equipeur and Party City. It said names, addresses, emails, phone numbers and year of birth were taken (full birth dates for fewer than 150,000), along with encrypted passwords and partial card data, but not full card numbers, bank or Triangle Rewards data. A leaked copy analyzed by Have I Been Pwned held about 38 million unique emails.

What should I do?

  1. Change your Canadian Tire / SportChek / Mark's password and any other account that uses the same password, and turn on two-step verification.
  2. Treat emails, texts and calls that mention Canadian Tire, Triangle Rewards or order refunds as suspect; don't click links or share codes, and contact the company through its official app or website.
  3. Ask Equifax Canada and TransUnion Canada to place a fraud alert or credit freeze on your file and review your credit report.
