What happened

BK Japan, which operates Burger King restaurants in Japan, said on October 15, 2026 that outsiders accessed the system that manages members of its official app between October 2 and 7, which it confirmed on October 13. Data for about 11.18 million app members leaked: member IDs, email addresses, registration type, prefecture, gender, date of birth, name, phone number, and whether the member had used mobile ordering or verified an email address. The company does not hold credit card numbers, and it said it had not found any leak of login passwords or any misuse as of the announcement.

What should I do?

  1. Be careful with emails, texts and calls that claim to be from Burger King or offer coupons or refunds, and don't open links or attachments in them.
  2. Don't enter your app password or other personal details on pages reached from such messages.
  3. Expect scam calls or texts to the phone number you registered, and hang up on anyone who asks for payment or verification codes.
  4. If you reused your app password elsewhere, change it as a precaution.
