What happened
Advance Auto Parts told Maine regulators that attackers copied data from its Snowflake cloud account between April and May 2024. The official count of about 2.3 million people covers job applicants and employees whose names, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers and birth dates were exposed. A separate leaked customer file contained about 79 million email addresses with names, phone numbers and addresses.
What should I do?
- Freeze your credit for free at Equifax, Experian and TransUnion so no one can open new accounts in your name.
- Request an IRS Identity Protection PIN so nobody can file a tax return with your Social Security number.
- Sign up for the free credit or identity monitoring offered in the notice letter before its enrollment deadline.
- Treat emails, texts and calls that mention Advance Auto Parts or Speed Perks rewards as suspect; don't click links or share codes, and contact the company through its official app or website.
