What happened
700Credit, which runs credit checks and ID verification for car dealerships, said attackers abused an exposed interface to copy consumer records from financing applications submitted between May and October 2025. About 5.6 million people had names, addresses, birth dates and Social Security numbers exposed, according to state notices. Many affected people never dealt with 700Credit directly; their dealer used it.
